In her first appearance at this star-studded event in three years, singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus used the Met Gala as an opportunity to champion veganism!
The 25-year-old vegan told Vogue: “I’m here, so excited to be a part of this because I think this moment can be about so many different things”.
“I want to bring a message, which is veganism and that there doesn’t have to be torture in fabulous fashion,” Ms Cyrus said.
The theme of this year’s glittering event, held on Monday, was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’.
Ms Cyrus indeed looked heavenly, wearing a plunging black satin halterneck gown, created by vegan fashion designer Stella McCartney.
She paired the classic ensemble with custom-made stilettos from luxury vegan shoe brand MINK, and accessorized with gold cross jewelry as a nod to the Catholic theme.
She later Tweeted, “Not killing animals is fucking hot! It’s so much cuter to NOT kill animals!”
Ms Cyrus was joined on the red carpet by Paris Jackson and Stella McCartney — who added that today’s fashion should be, “Stylish and sustainable at the same time”.
Earlier this month, Miley Cyrus teamed up with Converse to produce a special collaboration of vegan shoes and streetwear.
The range was especially designed to be inclusive, with Ms Cyrus stipulating: “No age, no gender, no sex — I wanted everyone to feel included.”
“I definitely had my fans in mind and in my heart when I was creating. I put what they love about me and what I love about them into the design”.
